I am quite a big fan of the Manga series Death note.
It's easily one of the best shounen based manga I have ever enjoyed, following closely behind Hikaru No Go.
My first encounter with this series was in Year 2003, when the first Manga was translated in simplified Chinese and sold in various comics connection.
During that point of time, "Death Note" was not known to the majority. And if you were to ask others about this series called "Death Note", they would probably go "WUT DWEATHZ NORTEZZ? I LIKE NARUTO AND SHAMAN KING!" Or something along that lines.
At the age of 13, my Chinese was pathetic.
At times, I couldn't even make out half of the words that imprinted on the manga dialogs. And even if I could, I am either too lazy to read the whole chunk of wordy dialogs, or if I did I just cant fully comprehend on the scenario of the manga.
Still, I got a brief idea of what the author is trying to present over here and there and some of the scheming traps that the character used to corner the other guy.
I guess that the major thing that made me continue with the series was the unique character design.
Yes, I am talking about L. As my blog title suggest, I am a big fan of L. At the same time, I admit
I USED TO be a L wannabe.
I remembered that during a certain period of time, I literally worshiped L.
He is just like this autistic clumsy and erratic super high IQ genius that's nabbing the baddest baddest bad guy in the entire world which can kill anyone anytime anywhere.
So I was like "WOW I ISH WANNA BE THIS GUY!"
Remember I was 13, or even 12 considering my really late bday.
On a side note, I still do like L as an character actually, but not worship.
I even set my handphone blue tooth profile to the name L. And as typical teenagers many just made fun of it and assume that L stands for lanjiao/lanpa.
Also, its my dark secret that i shamefully cried when L died in book 7 lol.
Moving on ...
I did't really share my obsession about death note until the live action first movie/anime was release.
I know what kind of replies will I get if I were to introduce this manga to my peers thats obsess with naruto/bleach. So yeah, I didt bother at all.
When the live action movie was about to be released, there was just this immense craze all over the city.
Everyone was like death note here and there.
There are even idiots that tried to lie through their teeth and told me the overall plot of the show was about this god of death coming to earth and killing everyone for no apparent reason.
I seriously feel like slapping him/her at then.
So when the movie finally hit the cinemas, many went to watch it.
And when everybody is discussing about how great a move is death note and how smart are the plotx of kira and L.
I am more of like "The manga is better but the movie is still acceptable. tatsuya fujiwara acting sucks and why the hell is L eating so much? "
Nobody cared anyway.
And like half a year later. The sequel hits the town.
The commotion over the second movie was pretty much the same as the first but as for the movie .. IT SUCKED MY BALLS.
Yes. DN2 live action movie truly sucked.
I thought the ending was pretty acceptable but the overall PACE is just shit.
Too damm much scenes that focused on misa (erika toda), tatsuya fujiwara acting sucked as usual, the anchor arc towards the end was totally bull shit, really.
Some of the tactical explanations was pretty vague and people were like going HUH!??? I dont blame them.
In this case, its essential for there to be a DN3. But wtf the directors decided to cramp the entire 3~4books into one movie. Amazing.
The anime deathnote was also released during then, and slowly it gained more and more publicity. People started to read the manga as well.
Very soon, deathnote is the new "IN" thing in town.
And as L is highly popular among the girls, many guys will try to engage into a conversation with the girls about how "MUCH" they know about deathnote and then they will point out the difference between the manga and movie.
They will tell different groups of girls over and over again that L is supposed to be killed by kira then they will slowly make inaccurate narration about N and M arc and all the blah blah shit, AS IF THEY WATCHED DEATH NOTE 3YEARS AGO. ZOMG.
It irritated me. Period.
Ok, so the third movie as everyone claims of death note is released.
Where fundamentally its not a third movie, it's just some stupid shit some guy made up.
I watched it for the sake of watching it. Knowing that I will be disappointed.
All this world virus thing and vaccine thing is really stupid. I was right. I demand the script writer to have his pants at his knees now.
In addition, IDK why but apparently they are like making DN into a comedy more than anything that it is supposed to be.
The character L is is screwed quite badly, even though he is a ladies man now.
Good example will be that, L is supposed to be a well known athlete in the manga, he is some kind of tennis champion when he studied in England. He is quite a good fighter too if you noticed the arc where he did a chin kick kind of thing right into kira face. Everything about him is just not accurate in the bad way.
But wtf, in L change the world, he runs slowly like a fucking retard. NO!!!!!
Worst of all, why did they find a thai kid that looks like a fucking retard to act as N?
If you want a math genius in the show it's okay, but fucking give him a different name please. Like N for NIPPLE or even NAZI, NOSEJOB whatever but not near!

Summing up. The death note franchise is really big now.
The publicity was all thanks to the shitty live action movie and the retardly paced anime that consist of really bad art.
Still, I enjoy the days when I would read DN as my bed time stories alone more.
